18 Year Anniversary

Jeni and I spent our 18th year anniversary celebrating with family and friends. I can't believe it's been 18 years since we were married in the Salt Lake City Temple. In some ways it feels like it was yesterday as the time has just flown by. In other ways, I feel like I have known Jeni my entire life. We were married 100 days from our return from the mission field. It was fast and I'm not sure I would recommend that kind of pace to others but it was right and we both knew it. Above is a picture from our 18 year anniversary and below is our engagement picture. Jeni still looks just as young as ever to me.

Maddy - Seventeen!

Maddy celebrated her 17th birthday a few weeks ago. She has become a beautiful young woman and we are proud to be her parents. She continues to develop her singing and acting and somehow she still has time to get good grades, read scriptures and help others around her. We celebrated her birthday with some shopping at City Creek in downtown Salt Lake and dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Happy Birthday Maddy!

Concert at Temple Square

Maddy's choir groups from the High School performed this weekend at Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. It was such an amazing setting to be on Temple Square with all the Christmas lights and festivities. We also got a chance to walk through the new City Creek mall and see Jeni's brother Steven performing as one of the music entertainers.

Merry Christmas 2012

Merry Christmas from the Shearers! More than anything this time of year, our hearts are full of gratitude; gratitude for the Savior, gratitude for His gospel, gratitude for family and friends, and gratitude for the daily blessings and tender mercies of the Lord. We are also thankful for the wonderful experiences that each new year brings. On this, our family blog, we try to capture these experiences, a few of which are highlighted below for 2012. Just click on the links to go to the specific post for details, pictures and videos.

Joey participated in a Service Project to help the homeless in downtown Salt Lake. Joey made a big difference to one of the many cute children that were there.

Joey went to a David Lanz and Kurt Bestor Concert. Joey continues to play the piano and started composing his own songs.

Joey became a Pilot this year, learning how to fly an RC plane. Joey continues to show skill in all things structural and mechanical.

Maddy participated in the Southern Utah Chapter of NATS Competition. She made the finals in both categories she entered and placed 1st in Mix / Legit and 3rd in Belt. We are continually amazed by her beautiful voice.

Maddy and Joey both participated in the annual Utah Shakespearean Festival joining 2800 students from over 100 schools and 7 surrounding States. Joey performed in a duo group and Maddy performed a monologue from "Merry Wives of Windsor," placing 3rd in her division out of 70 entries!

Maddy and Joey performed in the High School musical, Guys and Dolls. Maddy played Ms. Sarah Brown and Joey was a Gambler. It was a wonderful production with over 50 students in the cast. Maddy loves music and theater and hopes to study them in college in a few years.

Maddy and Joey sang in their Summer Vocal Recital. Maddy sang "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" from Sweeney Todd, and "Meadowlark" from The Baker's Wife. Joey sang "Empty Chairs and Empty Tables" from Les Miserables and "Seize the Day" from Newsies.

Jeni celebrated her 40th birthday this year. A book of memories was created for her from countless friends and family, all sharing gratitude for the influence she has and continues to be in their lives. We are grateful for each day we have with her.

Jeni was able to join the family at the Stadium of Fire this year for her favorite holiday. Despite her continuing health challenges, from time to time she's able to join us at events like this which we love.

Ro taught a series of cooking classes this year at home and for the local school district community program. He also began learning food photography to enhance his Cooking Blog.

Many of the New Testament Bible Videos Ro filmed were released this year. You can see him in Go and Sin No MoreJesus is Tried by CaiaphasThe Savior Suffers in Gethsemane and The Wise Men Seek Jesus.

Koda continues to be our favorite friend. We are so grateful for his companionship.

Following our annual tradition, please enjoy this beautiful video of "O Come, Emmanuel" performed by the PianoGuys and featuring scenes from many of the New Testament Bible Videos. We hope you have a joyful Holiday Season and  a Happy New Year. May the Lord's choicest blessings be yours, this Season and always.
