Afternoon Delight

Joey has been working so hard on his scouting that he's earned enough merit badges to receive his "Life" rank in June. He recently completed "Space Exploration," one of the requirements of which was to build and then launch his own model rocket. He did this completely by himself (no surprise there if you know Joey's mechanical skills...or if you know mine) and launched the rocket with the help of his merit badge counselor a few weeks ago. Below are pictures from that experience as well as a video of his 2nd launch. You can see the beautiful Wasatch Mountain range in the background.

Out of Towners Dinner

Last weekend I had the privilege of cooking for Jeni's parents Michael and Kaye, her Aunt Karla and her daughter Jessika, and her cousin Desi, all of whom live out of town. Also joining us were Jeni's brother Bob and his wife Carin. It was a fun night and Desi came early to help me do some of the final preparations. New Tastes of the night included White Grape Gazpacho and a Parmigiano-Reggiano Risotto with White Truffle Oil. Below are pictures from the night including a copy of the menu. Amazing that I didn't just take pictures of the food this time. I'm getting better at that hopefully!

Natural Disaster Simulator

A few weeks ago at the mall, Joey spied a machine called "The Hurricane" that simulated hurricane type winds. After serious persuasion on his part, I agreed to give it a try with him. As we stepped in and shut the door, wind started blowing on us from above. According to the gauge, it got as high as 79 mph and it felt like it. Both of our clothes ballooned and it was a little hard to breathe. Thankfully the winds only lasted about 20 seconds or so. Having gone to Slidell, LA to give aid during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and seeing the unbelievable destruction all around, I'll try to keep my hurricane experiences to this small booth, thank you very much.

This experience got me thinking about what this company would come up with next in their series of natural disaster booths. Try as I might, I just couldn't think of any that would be too appealing. That being the case, here's my list of Top 10 worst "Natural Disaster Mall Simulators." Imagine yourself getting into these booths. You might not get out!

1. Hailstorm
2. Lightning
3. Tsunami
4. Avalanche
5. Fire / Solar Burst
6. Mudslide
7. Tornado (complete with flying debris)
8. Flood
9. Earthquake
10. Volcanic Eruption

I don't think anyone is racing to the patent office to get started on these.

He Lives

I am so excited for General Conference this weekend! Nothing better than to help prepare than this video of modern-day apostles testifying that Jesus Christ is our Savior and that He lives today.
